Bonsai Australis is an independent effort to build the most comprehensive bonsai and Australian native plant species database available — care guides, suitability scoring, and cultivation data drawn from Australian growers, forums, nurseries, and botanical references.
Who's behind this
I'm a researcher and compiler, not a formal bonsai or botany expert. My approach is to gather information from multiple independent sources — growers, nurseries, forums, and published references — and treat anything corroborated across sources as reliable. Single-source information is flagged as unverified rather than presented as fact. This project grew out of my own bonsai collection and a frustration at how scattered good Australian-specific growing information was.
Sources
Data is cross-referenced from Australian bonsai communities and forums, nursery catalogues, and botanical authorities including the Atlas of Living Australia, Plants of the World Online, FloraBase, and ANPSA.
